INTRODUCTION

Emily spent 16 years in Journalism, PR and Corporate Communication, before she saw the opportunity to create an innovative approach to brand discovery and strategy that would serve mission-driven brands. Together with her co-founder, Emily’s approach to branding is both counterculture and scientifically based. Forged from an iron-sharpens-iron partnership, Root + River helps clients find the essence of each business and business leader in order to present an authentic representation.

FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Emily acts as a guide, not a prescriber, as she walks clients through a deep dive into the soul to unearth and articulate the core purpose (roots) and from there to determine the flow outward (river). It is a foundation resulting in durable, memorable and innovative brands. In this sense, Root + River’s work is spiritual as it is practical. And while at first some were a bit skeptical, Root + River’s intrinsic branding has served INC1000 and Fortune50 brands trend-proofs themselves from frequent revamping in response to society’s fickle trends. The approach also brings greater differentiation in the market and sales growth.

CLIENTS ARE MISSION-DRIVEN DEFIERS

It is not an approach for everyone. Clients want their brands to be bold and change their industry. Many come through word-of-mouth and include profit and non-profit ventures. These ‘defiers’ may include scaling business owners, executives launching second-careers, rising thought leaders or Chief Marketing Officers ready to push their brand further. Clients are local and virtual from across the U.S. and beyond. Emily’s work fits well with The W Source and she appreciates helping to elevating feminine intelligence as it reshapes established business norms.
